Forest Dunes
Forest Dunes Golf Club, located in Roscommon, Michigan, has a rich history dating back to its founding. The club is known for its two 18-hole golf courses designed by renowned architects. The first course, Forest Dunes, was designed by Tom Weiskopf and opened in 2002. It features a unique layout with two distinct personalities: the front nine meanders through heavily wooded corridors of red and jack pines, while the back nine opens up with rugged native sand areas and scruffy underbrush crossing and bordering fairways and greens.
In 2016, Forest Dunes added a second 18-hole course called The Loop, designed by Tom Doak. The Loop is a reversible course, meaning it can be played in two different directions. On even-numbered days, the Black Course is played clockwise, while on odd-numbered days, the Red Course is played counter-clockwise. This unique design allows golfers to experience two different courses on the same 18 greens and fairways.
Forest Dunes has received numerous accolades and awards since its opening. The Forest Dunes course was ranked #28 among the nation's top 50 ranked public courses, while The Loop's Black and Red courses were ranked #45 and #47, respectively. The club has also been recognized for its exceptional golf experience, with Golf Magazine ranking it among the top public access courses in Michigan.
In addition to its championship golf courses, Forest Dunes offers a variety of amenities for its guests. The club features a full-service restaurant, on-site lodging accommodations, and a 10-hole short course called Bootlegger. The Bootlegger course, designed by Keith Rhebb and Riley Johns, provides a fun and relaxed atmosphere for golfers to enjoy a round of pitch and putt.
Overall, Forest Dunes Golf Club has established itself as a premier golf destination in Michigan, offering a unique and memorable experience for golfers of all skill levels.
